The format of these retreats has been developed over the years to provide a supportive environment to allow us to shed light on the habits and patterns that keep us from living in the ease and peace of our true nature.
A container of shared silence is maintained during retreat, except during the sessions. Silence is restful, being the mirror of our natural state. This silent community creates a supportive environment in which to surrender to the inner silence, allowing us to question our conditioned beliefs and surrender to the truth of our being.
Patricia Brown and Surya Chandra Das are the teachers at this yoga retreat center, bringing 30 years of teaching and practice, encouraging students to cultivate intuitive receptivity and openness guiding them to find the unique expression of their True Nature.
We also lead yoga retreats in Guatemala, Mexico, and throughout the US.

Villa Sumaya is located on the shores of Lake Atitlan, described by novelist Aldous Huxley as the most beautiful lake in the world. Villa Sumaya is the utmost for those in search of rest, reflection and ageless natural beauty, accessible by boat only, the retreat center offers a quiet and deeply restful environment. It offers a world-class yoga and meditation hall and has a lake front location with full panoramic views, glass pyramid skylight and cascading waterfall.
There will be ample time to soak in the hot tubs, take a sauna, have a massage, hike in the adjacent hills, swim in the lake, explore one of more of the Mayan villages around the lake or simply relax in the beauty and quiet of Villa Sumaya.
This yoga retreat is suitable for anyone regardless of age, ability or previous experience in yoga and meditation.

Travel
Travel to Mexico
Please note that passports are now required for travel to Mexico.
Flights arrive at the Cancun International Airport (CUN) and taxi, shuttle service or public buses are available at the airport for transportation to Tulum which is 1.5 hours and 81 miles south of the airport. Shambala and Uno are on Tulum beach about 4 miles from the town of Tulum. Dinner will be at 6 pm the day of arrival and the first session is at 7:30m that evening. The last morning of the retreat the morning session will be from 7:30 to 8:30 am followed by breakfast.
Travel to Guatemala
The Villa is a 10 minute boat ride from Panajachel, which is a 2.5 hour drive from Guatemala's international airport in Guatemala City. Private shuttles from the airport may be organized via email.
For many it will be easiest to fly into Guatemala City on Friday the day before the retreat and take a 30 minute shuttle to Antigua, the beautiful colonial Spanish City with cobble stone streets surrounded by mountains. You may take a room here for the night and a shuttle to Panajachel Saturday morning. A group shuttle will leave Antigua at 12:30 pm Saturday, February 6th. Please contact Mickey if you would like to take that. (about a 2 ½ hour ride and approximately $12) The 10 minute boat ride from Panajachel to the villa is about $1.25. You might also arrange your return flight for Sunday, the day after the retreat ends, spending Saturday afternoon and evening after the retreat in Antigua. We will arrange a group shuttle mid-morning Saturday February 13 for the return to Antigua.
There are a wide range of accommodations in Antigua, ranging from a basic, clean room for $10 to luxury rooms in colonial mansions for $200. Most hotels will arrange a shuttle from Guatemala city to the hotel.
