Luxury French Gite - Grand Designs Holiday in France

Luxury French Gite - Grand Designs Holiday in France

Chez Jallot is featured on Grand Designs Abroad the popular Channel 4 series.

Every care has been taken to ensure that your stay at Chez Jallot will be both comfortable and memorable. All rooms have en-suite facilities and in our larger rooms you can enjoy a choice of both shower and bath.

Built of granite, Chez Jallot is a cool haven in the summer heat and for those winter days there is full central heating plus a welcoming woodburner in the lounge. So if you need to cool off after sunning yourself at Lake Vassiviere or to warm up after a stroll through the amazing spring woodlands, you will always have a welcoming home to return to.

Evening meals are taken either in the spacious dining room or, weather permitting, outside in the garden at the rear of the house. We offer a four course meal, with wine and tea or coffee to follow.

Should you feel guilty about over eating whilst here, you can work off some excess calories in the gym, or enjoy some exercise in the open air and explore the countryside at the same time.

For 2010 we have two gites or self catering apartments which will be available from June. These are each designed to sleep four people in comfort with a well equiped kitchen and spacious living area. The barn, which is attached to the house, has full access to the gardens and grounds and whilst staying in the apartments guests are welcome to book in for an evening meal at the house.

Additional Information

Places to Visit

One of the most beautiful areas of la Creuse is Lake Vassiviere. It covers an area of 1000 hectares and all the watersports are represented here. You can find well groomed beaches with facilities, or hidden corners where you can enjoy solitude. Standing on the Ile de Vassiviere is the Chateau of the Vassiviere family and a modern art centre. There are frequent fairs and events on the island, which is accessed by a causeway.

If you like animals there is Les Loups de Chabrieres. Your chance to see wolves living wild but from a safe distance. There is also an Observatory here for those of you with an interest in the stars.

There are of course many Chateaux and Gardens in the area, the most famous propably being Chateau Boussac where the tapestry of the Lady and the Unicorn was discovered. On the subject of tapestry, why not visit Aubusson famous for its tapestry for hundreds of years with workshops and exhibitions open most of the year. A very interesting day out can be had at Banizette, a lovely manor house with extensive gardens and museums, through which there are guided tours.

If you are on the look out for bargains there are Vide Grenier and Brocantes taking place throughout the year. The Vide Grenier are the equivalent of a car boot sale and the Brocantes can specialise in anything from Furniture to Post Cards. There are still some bargains to be had, even if you can only fit a small piece of Limoges Porcelain in your hand baggage.

With the GR4, one of France's long distance walks passing close to Chez Jallot, walking and cyling are no problem. There are many well marked walks in the area, for which we have directions, taking you through beautiful scenery, often along ancient pathways. Or simply wander off into our local woods, and if you can't find a decent footpath, then an animal track will usually lead you to something interesting.

This is just a basic view of things to do in la Creuse, there is also golf, fishing and horse riding to name but a few.
